Hosting of ECCS and CEN Technical Committees at Leibniz University Hannover

In April 2025, we had the honour of welcoming three distinguished technical committees to Hannover: ECCS TC16 (Wind Energy Supporting Structures), ECCS TC6 (Fatigue) and CEN TC250 SC3 “Eurocode 3” (Working Groups 9 and 10). The hybrid meetings took place on 11 April and from 24 to 25 April 2025. All sessions were hosted by Professor Dr. sc. ETH Elyas Ghafoori of the Institute for Steel Construction at Leibniz University Hannover and held at the Test Centre Support Structures Hannover (TTH).

The spring meeting of ECCS TC16 placed particular emphasis on welded joints in wind energy support structures, building on prior sessions focused on bolted connections and fatigue-induced corrosion. The joint meeting of ECCS TC6 (Working Groups 6.1–6.4) and CEN TC250 SC3 “Eurocode 3” (Working Groups 9 and 10) was dedicated to the second generation of the Eurocodes and upcoming early amendments, complemented by expert presentations on fatigue behaviour and structural hollow sections. Among the highlights were guided laboratory tours of the Test Centre Support Structures Hannover (TTH) and the Large Wave Current Flume GWK+ , both unique research facilities at Leibniz University Hannover, dedicated to advancing wind energy and coastal engineering. Another memorable moment was the evening programme of TC6, which provided an excellent setting for informal exchange and collegial networking.

We extend our sincere gratitude to all speakers and participants for their valuable contributions and stimulating discussions throughout the event. We now look forward to the forthcoming biannual meetings, to be held in Aachen (TC6) and Hamburg (TC16).
