Module: Steel Construction

You will find the contents and further information on the course in the module catalogue of the bachelor's program "Bau- und Umweltingenieurwesen".

Objectives

The students are familiar with the structural design of steel components and steel joints according to the standard DIN EN 1993. They gain basic knowledge of structural solutions for such problems. They gain basic knowledge of steel constructions and steel-composite construction. Hence, the students are enabled to consider specific constructural matters during the design or construction of buildings and enginnering constructions.

Topics

  • Construction and design of joints and fasteners (mainly bolted and welded joints
  • Steel-composite construction (steel-composite girders, steel-composite columns and steel-composite floors)
  • Stiffening of steel constructions
  • Proof of stability (torsional flexural buckling, frame structures, theory of second order, imperfections)

Exam

The exam exists of theoretical and calculation tasks.
