Corrosion
At the Institute for Steel Construction, the influence of corrosion on supporting structures of offshore wind turbines is investigated within the framework of ongoing research projects. The aim of the investigations is to develop models and methods to determine the remaining service life of existing wind turbines. The core task is to determine the notch effects resulting from corroded surfaces of the load-bearing structures and to determine the influence on fatigue strength by means of notch basic concepts. Due to the stochastic nature of the corrosion and the temporal change, Monte Carlo simulations must be carried out in order to be able to make statements about the remaining service life.
